Zed 2 dataset for spatial mapping

I’m recently found StereoLabs and their Zed 2 model from a youtube video where spatial mapping is performed in an “garden” LINK. The result look really good but the video is short and in an small area, it’s also four years old, and nothing about drift or loop closure can be seen/detected in the video. Having previously experimented with other slam dataset from different lidars (velodyne lio-sam, livox fast-lio). I really want to try out the Zed 2 and see the performance. I found the three datasets available from StereoLabs official website. But all of them are recorded stationary and can’t be used for spatial mapping. I even cant find any Zed 2 dataset when I searching on Google. I’m wondering if anyone have an Zed 2 dataset they can share with me, any outdoor dataset would be preferred. As a current student I don’t have the money to buy one just to test it out.

If you have any experience with the Zed 2 in a outdoor environment using the spatial mapping, what is your experience?

  • How does the spatial mapping perform in a bigger outdoor environment, lets say a nature/forest with the size 100x100 meter?
  • What is the drift situation like?
  • Is there any working loop closure?
  • Is there a working localization?

Hi @funktiona
Welcome to the Sterolabs community.

I recommend you order a ZED 2i (ZED 2 is out of production) and leverage the 30-day return policy to test the device directly on the field.

The ZED SDK Positional Tracking module uses visual feature information and inertial data to localize and build maps. The more the visual features, the better the results.
Furthermore, the ZED SDK is also enabled to fuse external global localization data from a GNSS sensor.

I recommend you read the documentation to get a reply to all your questions.
Please do not hesitate to ask for more information if you need it.
