Can't start ZED_Depth_Viewer ZEDfu

Hello
I installed ZED SDK 4.1.2, along with CUDA Toolkit 12.1 Update 1. However I can’t launch ZED_Depth_Viewer or ZEDfu. When I try they give the following error stack

ZED Diagnostic seems to insist that I should install CUDA 12.1. I installed it and verified with cuda-samples that it works, however, ZED throws errors.
I also tried the same with CUDA 12.0, 12.2, 12.4 and 12.5 on Ubuntu 22. All of them were installed properly (as per instructions on CUDA installation guide, and I was rebooting after every installation and removal of CUDA) and checked with cuda-samples. Although Diagnostic says that CUDA 12.1 not found, Depth viewer and ZEDfu return with the same set of errors

I also tried to wipe everything and let ZED installer setup everything, but it also didn’t solve the problem - I was getting the same errors. Additionally, I couldn’t actually check nvcc -V or nvidia-smi as they were reporting version mismatch.

While I am waiting for someone to answer, I will try to downgrade to Ubuntu 20 and try ZED with CUDA 11. Maybe I will even try older versions of ZED SDK

Hi @akim
Welcome to the Stereolabs community.

Please follow this guide to solve your problem:

Please also check in the bios of the PC that the “Secure Boot” is not enabled.

Hello,
I turned off Secure Boot immediately after I got the laptop, and I check every time that its turned off
I tried the procedure from the post. However it didn’t help. I tried it with two different laptops. On one it resulted in irreversible black screen, on the other it actually showed nvidia as opengl vendor, but still gave the same error

Also, I thought this solution was for cases when there was issue with “GLSL 3.30 is not supported” error?

Also other forums suggest that there is a problem of having too new hardware that kernel can’t recognize it - they suggest to install kernel 6.8+ or just use ubuntu24. Did you have similar experience?

For now, I will try a new installation, but I am out options at this point

Update

I installed a clean Ubuntu 22. Then I installed CUDA 11.8 as per NVIDIA instructions, excluding cuda-driver. I used apt to install driver 535. Then I followed these instructions and set nvidia as primary and rebooted.
glxinfo still shows that Intel is used for render, while sudo prime-select query returns nvidia

glxinfo | grep OpenGL

I recommend using CUDA 12 with RTX GPU cards.
On a laptop with the same GPU card we use CUDA 12.1 and the driver version 555 without problems.

Thanks I will try again a bit later

Could you tell if you also have a 13th gen intel CPU with integrated graphics?
And does your system work on Ubuntu 20 or 22?

Different sources tell me that kernels on Ubuntu 20 and 22 can’t interact properly with latest CPU generations and integrated graphics, and thats probably the reason why I can’t choose my actual GPU as primary.

I will post an update if I would be successful in installation.

Thank you. It really does seem to be a problem caused by integrated graphics.
I tried installation on desktop where there is no integrated graphics and only discrete GPU and everything works fine.
But two laptops with integrated graphics and discrete GPU don’t work
Conclusion: avoid CPU with integrated graphics
