Can anybody answer the question?

Is Stereolabs still staffed?

I have a problem in the process of using it, and I have sent 5 emails continuously for a week, but still no staff can help me solve it. The only reply is to ask me to ask questions in the current forum, but it has been two days, and there is still no reply from anyone.

I am using ZED mini, ZED SDK version 4.2.5. My computer uses cuda version 12.1, and the GPU is GTX1650. In the process of use, the accuracy has a serious problem. The test situation is as follows:

  1. the actual distance is 0.873m, and the camera measurement depth is 0.711m.
  2. the actual distance is 1.613m, and the depth measured by the camera is 1.268m.
  3. the actual distance is 4.213m, and the depth measured by the camera is 3.32m.

Note that all the above tests were performed after the ZED Calibration procedure. HD720, 15 frames, ULTRA mode was used for all tests. The actual distances were all measured by a laser range finder. You can see that the overall test results are low, and the error increases with distance. I would like to ask for your help, what is the cause of this situation? What’s the solution? My use scenario is an outdoor scene of about 10m. The camera is mainly used to collect data, and the resolution can only be used with HD720. In this regard, do you have better suggestions on camera Settings?

Not with Stereolabs, but I noted that your % error is (more or less) consistent at around 20%. This would suggest to me an issue with the comparison. Perhaps the pose (angles) of the camera aren’t aligned with your laser measurements. I think that might cause constant error percentages.

This tracks very closely with the degraded performance we noted after running SL’s calibration tool. I would suggest that the tool is actually very bad, and you should revert to the default calibration, else manually tweak it until you reach agreeable values across a range of depths.

Still here to help you as long as we receive the required information

Update: We’ve just noticed that for some reason, we have not received the notifications of your previous posts. That’s why you have not received replies.
We are verifying what happened, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Have you tried to use the latest ZED SDK v5.0.3? The depth models in SDK 5 are a step forward with respect to what you can get with the ZED SDK v4, even if our old models still remain very good.

Why have you recalibrated the camera? All the ZED cameras leave our factories precisely calibrated in a calibration cage with robotics arms.
Manual calibration must be performed only if you are using the cameras in specific conditions (ie underwater, behind a curved glass, …) or if they received physical or thermal shocks that could have modified the configuration of the lenses.
Is recommend you open ZED Explorer and you click the FACTORY RESET BUTTON in the Calibration Window:

Have you tried instead the NEURAL depth mode? The classic ULTRA mode is now deprecated. We replaced all the standard Stereo Matching depth estimation pipelines with AI-based processing.

Are you measuring depth values or Euclidean Distances? Please send a picture of your setup to learn more about it.

This is expected.

Relevant observation.

The tool works correctly, but it cannot provide a calibration performance comparable to what we can obtain in the factory by moving the cameras with precise robotic arms in precise, validated poses to acquire the calibration targets.

This is not recommended. Manual tweaking could lead to unpredictable behaviors if performed without full knowledge of the parameters and their mutual interactions.
