Battery for ZED Box Orin NX 16GB

Hi everyone,

We recently bought ZED Box Orin NX 16GB for our outdoor project and want to purchase a battery for this use case. Is a lipo battery with 5200MAH 18,5 VOLT enough for ZED BOX Orin NX to run outdoor scanning? and is it sufficient for tools like ZEDfu to run on Neural mode smootly?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Hi @vivien
Welcome to the Stereolabs community.

To ensure optimal performance of the ZED Box Orin NX, it is recommended to use a 4S LiPo battery. The battery’s capacity should be selected based on the required duration. In my opinion, a 5200 mAh battery may not provide a long enough duration and therefore, I suggest using a battery with a capacity of at least 10000 mAh.

To further enhance the experience, I recommend adding a DC-DC converter between the battery and the ZED Box. This will help provide a stable power voltage in the required range of 12V-19V while the battery is discharging.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer.

Hi @vivien,

Could you share the battery you used? I’m considering buying one this week and would appreciate your feedback.

Thank you very much,

For my robotics applications, I normally use LiPo or LiFePO4 4S batteries with this programmable DC-DC converter to provide the correct safe input power to the Jetson: DCDC-USB, Intelligent DC-DC converter with USB interface

Thanks for the reference, that’s helpful  Do you have any specific recommendation for the battery?

No, any standard LiPo/Li-Ion/LiFePO4 battery is good.
I recommend getting one with BMS and a maximum discharge rate of at least 5A.
